The most attractive architectural landmarks in Karlovy Vary include the unique Municipal Theatre building built in 1886 by renowned Viennese architects Fellner and Helmer. The interior decorations are especially noteworthy, in particular the curtain painted by Art Nouveau masters Gustav Klimt, Ernst Klimt and Franz Matsch.

In addition to a wide offering of theater performances of various genres, the historic building also plays host to a number of prestigious artistic and social events, including screenings of the International Film Festival.
